Chiquetazo Mezcal

About Us

Born the hard way

Three men in an agave field: one leans on a long-handled tool while the others work among the plants; cut leaves lie on the ground, with hills in the distance.

The brand was born in pandemic times, when everything was dead. We were born in an era when everything meant grinding on and taking life's punches. That's where the name comes from.

Today we produce, bottle and sell artisanal mezcal for both Mexican and foreign clients. The starting point never changes: quality is proven by opening the bottle.

A blow. A hard knock. A hell of a hit. That's a chiquetazo.

Our craft

The agave is cut by hand

The agave is cut by hand down to the piña. Physical work, done outdoors, that begins long before the mezcal reaches the bottle.

A man in a hat cutting the leaves off an agave with a machete out in the field; the trimmed heart lies at his feet.
A dump truck with its bed raised, loaded with agave hearts and several already on the ground.
Someone pouring mezcal from a bottle of Chiquetazo Espadín into a small cup, outdoors.

Oaxacan lands

A connection to Santiago Matatlán

More than bottles, we offer a connection to the lands of Oaxaca, above all to Santiago Matatlán. The first contact with Chiquetazo is a tasting: clients open whichever bottle they like and judge the quality, and above all the price, for themselves.

And the deal closes the way it should: with a ¡salud! and a handshake.
